Industry | n. phr.
a semisolid by-product that is extracted from the paste in the two-phase system and consists of vegetation water and pomace. It is used by the extraction industry to produce olive-residue oil.

Example

electronic power companies in Spain are dipping into olive oil for fuel. A plant in the southern city of Benamejí is burning crushed olive pulp and skins to produce 12 megawatts of electricity.

Additional information

the degree of humidity of crushed olive pulp (60-70%) is higher than that of the pomace obtained in the three-phase system, in which oil, pomace and mill wastewater are extracted separately. By contrast, the two-phase system is environmentally safer since it produces no mill wastewater.
