Agriculture | n. phr.
a multiplication method typical of modern oliviculture and carried out in nurseries which consists in planting small leafed cuttings under controlled environmental conditions and by using products that favour rooting, in order to later grow the resulting saplings in pots.

Example

Propagation is very easy by rooting of softwood cuttings under mist at any time of year. Hardiness is unknown but it should be fine throughout the Piedmont and coastal plain in USDA zone 7.

Additional information

this method has a number of advantages: it makes it possible to plant throughout all seasons if water is available and it allows introducing new varieties as well as obtaining a high number of plants from the same olive tree. In addition, certificates may be issued indicating that the saplings are healthy, and the resulting plants come into production early.
